Ryleigh walking at 10 months old

Here are some videos of Ryleigh walking. They're all super short (less than 10 seconds), but they illustrate her walking nonetheless. Enjoy!

She has now taken to walking from an object around the living room and walking to Chris or I sitting on the couch. We're in trouble now!

10 months already?!

I can't believe Ryleigh is 10 months old already! Seems like yesterday we were bringing her home, now she's turning into a little person.

Tonight when I put her to bed, I saw more of her personality come out. I normally sit in the rocker and hold her while she has her bottle. She stares at the projector on the ceiling. It has been an underwater scene with cartoon fish. I changed it to a jungle theme today and she totally noticed. She kept pointing and grunting toward it. When she finishes her bottle we sit and talk about the animals going around "3 little fishies.... 1 BIG fishy... 1 REALLY BIG octopus". Today we changed it up "3 little froggies, what do froggies say? Ribbit, ribbit. 1 little monkey. What does a monkey say? ooo ooo ooo." She loved the monkey sound effect and giggled every time I'd do the sound. When I put her in her crib she pointed to the monkey on the ceiling and started laughing. Such a stinker sometimes, but she's so cute!

Here's a picture from today. Had to remember to get a 10 month one since I was actually home today.

10 months old... time for an update!

Okay okay, by popular demand, I guess it was time for an updated post.

So since last time, we had to interview new sitters because our old sitter got a new job as a counselor at a high school. (That fell through but that's another story.) We found 2 girls we really liked who both decided the job wasn't for them. Then finally we found a lady with a 2 year old who is willing to watch Ryleigh at her place and deal with my crazy complicated schedule. Our condo isn't big enough for 2 toddlers to play, it's almost to small for 1, and hers is much larger. So we'll start the new sitter next week.

Ryleigh took her first steps last Wednesday at 9 months 3 weeks!!! She's be able to for a while, she just didn't have the confidence to let go. Now she'll give it a try. I haven't been able to get it on camera yet, since she will only walk between mommy and daddy. But she's gaining confidence and a few times has left furniture to walk to me.

And now what you've been waiting for... Pictures and VIDEOS!

Since Ryleigh has become so mobile and our condo is so tiny, it's hard to childproof. So we can close off the bedroom doors to keep her in the living room, but she got more daring and started exploring the kitchen. So we had to get a gate to keep her out. You can tell she LOVES the gate. She tries to climb it or squeeze through when we're in the kitchen.

Last night she was getting her hands on stuff she knows she should leave alone (ie. Mom's trash, papers, magazines). She got her hands on my capri sun wrapper and wouldn't let go of it!

Another great tub video. She's such a happy spaz in the bath.

Here's a video of her and her walker. She doesn't need the walker, she just uses it as a plow now. Check out her determined face as she turns it around:

And here's a video for the grandparents. It's long and not too exciting, but the beginning shows typical Ryleigh expressions/hand communication, and all the fine motor skills she's mastered (bending down to pick up stuff, etc).

Videos!

Today Ryleigh and I went to Kristal's daughter Ella's 2nd Birthday party! Kristal and I have known each other since we were 2. Ryleigh played on the little tikes slide for the first time... hated it! I took her inside one of the bounce houses (it was a small one made for kid), she FREAKED out! But other than that she did really well being passed from Kristal to her mom, Elaine, to Kristal's Grandma Rosa, and Aunt Lucy. Her and Ella weren't too sure what to think of each other since the age gap is still really apparent at that age. But it was still fun.

Then we interviewed a new babysitter. We've been having issues with scheduling with the one we have, so we figured it was time to at least have another one to use. We really like her. We'll use her on Wednesday to give her a trial run.

Here are some videos from this week:

This one is Ryleigh showing you her waving skills.

And this one is Ryleigh showing her disapproval of every clothing option we gave her today. She started making a face when we'd hold up an outfit, and to some she'd do this little nasal grunt. Too cute!

End of July Update: Floatsuit, Grandma and Grandpa visit, and BooBoos

Alright time for an update. I somehow either get really caught up or really behind when I'm on call. This past call cycle, I got behind.

Here's some photos of our last trip to Phoenix of Ryleigh in her super hero floatsuit. My mom just sent them to me not long ago.

On the 17th of July my parents came out to visit. They watched Ryleigh on Friday and let her get into all kinds of trouble!
From Ryleigh Grace - 8 months plus

She's becoming a pro with her walkers. I need to get a video of her speed, but she gets from one end of the living room to the other in a flash.

She had fun playing with Grandma and Grandpa.

And during their visit she started making this "stinker" face. She does it when we say no, when she doesn't get her way, or when she's trying to get your attention by being cute. It's even cuter when she adds a snort along with it :)

A few days after my parents left, Ryleigh started to crawl. And as expected, she didn't just start with an army crawl, or anything. Nope, she went with the full speed ahead pro crawl. So now she is into everything. It's neat to see how mobile she has gotten and how she creatively gets from point A to point B.

But with all of her new found freedom has come a sleep issue. She now has realized that life doesn't end when she goes to sleep. She's also realized her freedom. We used to be able to put her down in her crib, shut the door, and let her fuss for a few minutes and she'd be fast asleep. Now, the second we put her down she flips over and stands up and cruises around her crib.

Along with just standing up and screeching, she throws things too.

No more bottles in bed!

We've had to take the fish tank out of her crib since she'd play with it. So naps have been shorter now, and it takes three times as long to get her to go to sleep. I can't wait until this phase is over!

And along with her new ability to explore has come all kinds of bumps and bruises. Today she got a good bump and we tried to put an icepack on it. She didn't want us to hold the pack on so we had to be creative:

Maybe I'll get around to getting some new videos now that I'm off call finally!

Video Post

Here's some long awaited videos:

One from the end of June:

She's gotten a lot more sturdy with the walking, but she still "protects" the mail when she goes out for a delivery.

One from the beginning of July:

This is when she first started to crawl. She's gotten a little better, but still prefers to "walk".

And here's a recent one from last week:

It's her fake cry with her cute little scrunched up face in the middle.

The Snarffle

So last weekend Ryleigh started to try to crawl. She actually gets into crawling position, and will rock and then lunge forward into a face plant... hey she's still perfecting it!
From Ryleigh Grace - 8 months plus

I have a video of it too, but I still need to upload videos. Maybe I can get to a video post this weekend.

Ryleigh's started to babble. She started with ma-ma, then ba-ba last weekend. Now she's dropped the ma-ma and picked up da-da. It's so cute when she babbles all the syllables together. We've also figured out that when she says "ba" by itself, she means "bottle". I take her over to where we make her bottles and she gets all excited. It's cool to see she's starting to communicate.

I think we're also seeing the start of separation anxiety, but only with me. Ryleigh spent all day witih me on Wednesday and every time I put her down to play (sitting/standing/etc.) she'd freak out the second I'd walk away from her. I was still in sight, but not close enough I guess. This resulted in whining, and sometimes hysterical crying like she'd just hurt herself or something. The second you pick her up, she was happy as can be. I was pulling my hair out with all the whining by the time Chris got home. On Thursday Chris watched Ryleigh and said she was good all day, no whining more than usual. As soon as I get home, he witnessed her whining and hysterical cries when I'd get to far away. At one point she went on a walk with me, with her facing me the whole time talking to her. I get home and put her down next to Chris. As I walk into the kitchen (still in sight) she started FREAKING out. He couldn't believe how she reacted. That's when we realized it was just me that she wanted to be close to. It's kinda cool that she's clingy to me, but man it ruins my productivity.

And this is her new thing. I call it the "snarffle". It's totally a fake cry/whine. She scrunches her face, and whines, and kinda does this funny nose breathing thing. It's really cute. I think I have it on video, if not I need to get it. Here's some pictures of it though:

Yes, she keeps her 1 eye open!

And proof that it's fake. She's looking at Chris to see if he's paying attention to her.
