On Monday, Ryleigh figured out how to roll over... FINALLY! Just in time for her 5 month bday. And I caught it on video on Tuesday.

5 months!
Ryleigh took her first plane trip last weekend. We flew back to Phoenix to visit my parents. She's been doing this thing where one day she takes a 4 hour nap and the next she refuses to nap period while sleeping the same at night. So the flight out she was really fussy and grumpy. The flight back I figured out that putting a blanket over her head she slept on the plane. She's at that age where everything distracts her because she's taking it all in. So getting her to fall asleep on a plane with so many distractions was a challenge.

4 months old today!
Where does time go?! Wow, okay I'm an update slacker. I didn't realize it had been a whole month!
Ryleigh decided that 2 teeth were enough for now. Since her teeth came in she's been chomping on everything. It helps that she now has the coordination to put stuff in her mouth, although that came AFTER she got the teeth. She actually uses teethers now. Sophie is still her favorite toy. She's also become a fan of these taggie "blankets" I've made (essentially 2 squares of fabric with ribbons sewn along the sides). For whatever reasons babies love sucking on tags.
My parents came out to visit at the beginning of the month and brought Ryleigh her Jumperoo. She got it for Christmas, but was a little too young for it. Now she is starting to enjoy it.
And we went to my cousin's Baptism around the beginning of the month.
Ryleigh's new thing is falling asleep with stuff over her face. Guess she takes after her mom.
She sleeps through the night and has for a while. We finally have a night routine, and she's pretty good about sticking to it even if we try to keep her up longer. It's bath at 8, food at 8:30, and bed by 9. She'll sleep til 7 or 8am. She's started to get a witching hour around 5-7pm. She just fusses and doesn't let you put her down, and won't even let you sit down while holding her.
She still has the best pouty face. And even does it in her sleep.
Alright so here's the real update. We went to the doctor today. She weighs 13 pounds, 14 ounces, 24" long, 42cm head circumference. She got 4 vaccines again (1 oral, 3 shots). Poor baby has been sleeping or groggy most of the day. It was funny b/c she's starting to recognize strangers. You could tell she didn't trust the doctor, she kept looking at him and looking back at me with this pouty face like "wait a second this isn't normal". So there ya have it! She's getting big. She's almost completely moved into 3-6 months clothes. There's a few 3 month Carters stuff that still fits her, but not for much longer. I give it another two weeks tops.
Ryleigh has been grabbing at and reaching for stuff now. It went from grabbing a toy we were handing her, to now reaching for our drinks as we drink them.
Hope that's enough of an update for now. We've been busy with work and watching Ryleigh grow. One day I'll get around to uploading some videos we've taken of her.

Make that TWO teeth!
Last night in the bath we wanted to check out Ryleigh's new tooth see how far it had come in. That's when spotted it... a second white spot on the bottom... upon closer inspection we discovered it was ANOTHER TOOTH!!!! I don't know why she feels the need to grow up so fast. I mean she has the rest of her life to be an overachiever, no need to get all her teeth in one week.
Poor baby! She hasn't been too uncomfortable and no fever. Just wants to be held and cuddled more often, especially at night. She doesn't have the coordination to hold things in her mouth yet, so teethers are not very useful. I'd heard people rave on parenting communities about this rubber giraffe named Sophie that babies love, especially for teething. I was skeptical, looked like a doggy chew toy to me, heck it even squeaks. But after only 2 days of playing with it she's figured out how to chew on the horns and shove the feet and legs in her mouth. I'm almost sold. Here's her first day with Sophie:
Oh and she's figured out how to suck just her thumb. Started it on Saturday when her tooth started to poke through.

First week of work and a TOOTH!
We survived going back to work!
Chris went back to work on the 12th. I stayed home with Ryleigh for one last week. I went back to work on the 19th. Chris was off that day, so it helped me transition back to work. We all survived the first week of all of us back to work. Personally, it was weird being back. I mean I missed being at home with Ryleigh, but it was good to be around people again. By the end of the week I was pumping cases again. Just like riding a bike, getting back in the groove. I am trying to figure out if it's possible for me to continue breastfeeding. I'd really like to continue until she's 6 months at least, but it's really hard for me to find time to pump while at work. And going 10 hours every day without pumping, along with not consuming enough water is impacting my milk supply. For now I'm going to try to do all I can, but it is one challenge I have noticed so far.
Ryleigh survived too. My friend Kristal watched her this week, along with my Aunt Kim. Kristal wanted her 17 month old to get used to having a baby around since Max will be arriving in the next few weeks. They both said Ryleigh was really good for them, but when I took her home she was really fussy when I picked her up. She went back to cluster feeding until her bathtime. I'm not sure if she was doing it for comfort or hunger. She also didn't nap much after coming home either.
We are still working on her bed time too. Since most nights this week Chris didn't get home until almost 8pm, and I need to be in bed by 10 since I get up at 4:30am, we're trying to get her to go to sleep between 9:30 and 10pm. This week we're getting closer to that. Last night she was asleep at 10. She's getting more used to her bedtime routine.
Yesterday Chris was working all day. Ryleigh refused to nap. Even though she was tired, she wouldn't sleep for more than 15-30min. Normally she'll take one good 2 hour plus nap a day if not more, so I was just hoping it was going to be later in the evening. Nope. By 9pm she still hadn't had a decent nap and was just generally fussy. She wanted held, but not while you were sitting down... she was also shoving everything in her mouth (hands, burp cloths, even her tummy time mat found its way to her mouth). During her bath she had some spit up she was saving for later, so I swept my finger in her mouth to clear it out. I ran my finger along her gums and noticed she's cutting her FIRST TOOTH!!!! I looked and there it was a little white bump starting to poke through the gums. She's only 3 months old (13 weeks) today!! So advanced for her age ;)

Christmas update
Happy New Year!!
After the funeral we had 3 days to get everything ready to go to my parents for a week, and finish up Christmas shopping, etc. For those of you who don't know, my second cousin Kaydee died after being hit by a car while she was helping a girl who was hurt in a car accident on the freeway. Went to my parents on the 23rd. The 24th we went to Christmas eve mass and she actually did really well. No fussing at church.

Christmas day she spent sleeping the entire time we opened presents. She got all kinds of toys (which she totally needed).

Chris and I had a great Christmas. It was good to spend Christmas with my family, especially after what happened to Kaydee. Makes me cherish every moment I spend with them and not take any of that time together for granted.
On the 27th my line sister got married. It was so good to see my sorority sisters. We figured it had been 4-5 years since I've seen most of them. Seriously how does time fly so fast? 4 years!!! The wedding was beautiful. The bride is a vocal performance major and does musical theatre, so her friends who sang were amazing. I got chills when they sang. The reception was so much fun. The DJ was awesome. Chris commented that it was the most multicultural event he's ever been to. LOL The bride was Korean/African American and the groom was Korean. At the table we sat at (with my sorority sisters) we had Korean, African American, Indian, Hispanic, Caucasian, and multiple multiracial people.
Ryleigh had her 2 month checkup on December 23rd. She weighed 11 pounds 3 oz. 22 inches long. She got shots too. I guess my faith in medicine prevented me from delaying her vaccines, so I'm praying she is unaffected by them. She had a fever for a day or two, and was a little fussier than normal. Although her fussiness started a few days before she got her shots. It lasted about a week and a half, and now she's back to normal. If even better, than before. She's been going to bed closer to midnight. And being so content playing on the activity gym mat. She was so content she even fell asleep on it today.
Can't wait to see what the new year holds with our little family :)

Thanksgiving
Our Thanksgiving was very nice. My parents came to visit. My brothers got to meet Ryleigh for the first time. My parents would figure out ways to steal Ryleigh from each other, and it was very cute to see Chris and Cory with such a tiny baby. Cory was scared to touch her or move with her. Ryleigh had on a cute purple outfit she managed to pee on as soon as we got to Dick and Margaret's, so no one got to see her cute little outfit. Oh well. She had plenty of people wanting to hold her all day.
Chris and I got to go out for our anniversary on the Friday after Thanksgiving. My parents kinda kicked us out so they could babysit. Ryleigh was very good for them. They got to see her nighttime cluster feeding and alertness. They realized wasn't insane, and that she really was eating every hour and awake in between from 8pm on.
Ryleigh is holding her head up all by herself now (for the most part). She's starting to smile too. Some days more than others. She's also starting to acknowledge toys and look at the mobiles more intently. She's finally outgrown her newborn clothes and moved her way into the 0-3 months. She's also sleeping anywhere from 4-8 hours a night. A few nights she's gone to bed around midnight and fussed a few times around 6:30 and 7:30am, but didn't actually wake up until 8:30am! I can't complain about that. Just hope she can do that in an actual cradle/crib soon.
I went to the doctor on Monday and everything looks good. My incision is healing well, my blood pressure is back to normal.
Other than that we're just getting ready for Christmas. We're going to go to Arizona next week for Christopher's graduation from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. Then we'll go back to Arizona around Christmas Eve for Christmas and for Kim and Eddie's wedding. We'll see how Ryleigh handles the long car ride and sleeping in a Pack n Play rather than her swing.
