Disneyland, Part 2

Later in the evening, we were going to get a spot early for the fireworks. In the process, I found the most amazing spot for the castle lighting. No idea that was going to happen. It was so cool to see. I got a video of it, just need to figure out how to get it off my camera.

But look how amazing it looks all lit up!

So we thought we had this awesome space for the fireworks, then we were informed that they were going to be clearing out that space for the actual show. After trying to find a new spot, we got a nice tip from one of the cast members. They told us to go park the stroller next to this wheelchair in the middle of the street. During the show, everyone stands in the street and they use the sidewalks as... sidewalks! Now, if you've been to Disneyland you know that the streets are more highly trafficked than the sidewalks. Where they guy told us to go was where they were going to make a pathway for people to cross the street. So no one would be in front of us for the show. So we go and park next to this guy in a wheelchair (well sorta, this lady got in the way to reserve some spots). But this made a nice roadblock and we got all kinds of nasty comments about parking in the middle of the street. It was chaos to say the least, but Chris, Cory and Kristin were able to find us quite easily before the show. And it was a great place to see the show. Great unobstructed view.
And Ryleigh fell asleep after the Castle lighting, and almost slept through the fireworks. Guess the kid still needs a nap no matter how much she tries to fight it.

Chris got Ryleigh out of the stroller to try to wake her up for the fireworks. Here she is trying to go back to sleep, but I told her to say "cheese" so she did lol.

Despite the lack of rides we went on, and all the rides breaking (Kristin and I were about to get on Big Thunder Mountain using a fast pass, and they cleared out the station because it broke down. So we lost a fast pass!) it was still a magical end. Hopefully our next trip in January is a little more productive :)

Disneyland, Part 1

The Monday after Christmas at Grandma's we went to Disneyland. We'd been planning this all year with my brothers and Kristin. I haven't been to Disneyland at Christmas time in a very long time. It was very busy, and sadly all the rides kept breaking (which may have contributed to why it seemed so busy).

First ride of the day - Pinnochio.

Then the carousel.

And then on to Pirates of the Caribbean. The line was insane! Way out down the square!!

Auntie Kim met us there. We ended up getting stuck on Pirates. Thankfully not in a very scary part. Ryleigh decided she didn't like "yo ho".
Kim took Ryleigh over to see Minnie Mouse. We went on a few rides and then went to go meet Kim and Ry for lunch.

We tried to go to Indiana Jones before lunch - again! It was broke more times than we could count that day. We finally got on, then went to the Jungle Cruise. Ryleigh was traumatized after Pinnochio (which she thought was scary) and Pirates. So we thought the Jungle Cruise would be nice and tame - she didn't trust us lol.

When Kim had to say goodbye, we took a ride around on the Monorail. Here is the great view you get while waiting in line.

Kristin and I went to watch the parade with Ryleigh while the boys went on the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Loved to see Disneyland all lit up and decorated. So Magical!

Ryleigh got really excited to see Woody. While Kim was watching Ryleigh, they saw Jesse and Woody walking. Ryleigh was trying to run up to Jesse. Woody saw her and wanted to play with her, so he came up behind her and covered her eyes. She ran away and ran to grab onto Jesse's leg. Ryleigh was so tickled by this - she loved it. We still hear the story about 6 times a day. So during the parade, Ryleigh saw Woody. She was like "Woody!! Remember you covered my eyes!! Hi Woody!!!" It was so cute!

Christmas at Grandma's 2011

On December 17, we drove out to California for Christmas at my grandma's house. We got there in time for dinner. We checked into the hotel and then went out to BJ's Brewery for dinner. They have such good food.

On Sunday it was "Christmas" at my grandma's.

Ryeigh kept saying she wanted a baby doll for Christmas. GiGi came through and got her an American Girl Bitty Baby and accessories. She loves changing the clothes on her Bitty Baby. We're still working on giving baby a name.

Santa take 2

December 14, my mom invited Ryleigh to a party at Mountain Ridge for all the teachers and staff's kids and grandkids. They had crafts, and food, and games for the kids. Ryleigh was in heaven doing crafts. Then SANTA made an appearance!!! (Sorry for the cell phone photos, I forgot my camera.)

Ryleigh and Santa

The next weekend we did lots of Christmas shopping and Ryleigh got to see Santa. There was a cute little workshop set up in Anthem, so we went up there. Ryleigh had no idea what to expect since this was her first time going to see Santa.

I still need to upload the official photo of Ryleigh and Santa. Will update this post when I do. Until then..

We also saw the largest Christmas Tree in the United States. Yes, the largest tree in the country is in Anthem!!

After we saw Santa and did some shopping, we discovered that Michaela's Dance Magic was doing their holiday show in front of the tree in Anthem. Ryleigh was so excited to see the dancers in costumes. She had just gotten measured for her first dance costume that week in dance so we'd just had a discussion about what dance costumes are and what a dance show is. So this was a great introduction to a dance show for her. We watched a few numbers and Ryleigh loved it!

Anniversaries

We celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary on December 2. We didn't do anything special as Chris had to work that weekend and I had to go down to Tucson that weekend too. We decided to splurge on a nice hotel room on property for our race at Disneyland in January. And maybe a massage post race :)

December 2 was also the 10th anniversary of my line founding the Mu Chapter of my sorority, Theta Nu Xi Multicultural Sorority, Inc. at the University of Arizona. This is why I had to go to Tucson. The current members held a reception to celebrate the 10th Anniversary. It was so neat to see how the chapter has evolved. I am so proud of what it has become and the presence they have made on campus.
Sutopa, Heather, and I. Hmm, just realized we're missing all the even numbers lol. I founded the chapter with these ladies, and 3 others.

Amazed at how our chapter family tree has grown. When I left it was just 2-3 deep, now there's 6-7+ "generations". Amazing!
