Crib, Kicks, and Goodies

Got the crib this week, way earlier than we thought we'd get it. And me being the impatient one that I am, we put it together already! So pretty. It's the official start of something that resembles a nursery.

Went to the doctor on Tuesday. Fetal assessment scan was good, everything looked normal. I'm allowed to fly at 32 weeks, so I can go to D2 wedding barring any problems that may come up. Next appointment I have to take the glucose tolerance test to test for gestational diabetes. The ultrasound pictures we got at this appointment were not very good, so there aren't any to share in that department.

I felt BG kick for the first time on Wednesday morning! :) I'd been noticing last week that around 8-10am I'd feel these strong movements, but every time I put my hand on my belly they stopped. I was also up walking around, getting ready to go on bypass most of those times. But on Wednesday I went into work later. Around 8:30 I felt the same type of movement while lying in bed. I quickly put my hand on my belly and BG kicked it pretty hard, and once more a little softer. I felt it a little last night around 3am during a potty trip. It definitely made my day! BG's not big enough to hit anything major yet, so it's still very cool to feel the movements. I know I'll probably be begging for it to stop when my ribs, liver, kidneys, bladder are getting abused.

I also got a box full of baby goodies from my mom this week. Apparently she took full advantage of sale priced baby items when she's been out and about :) BG's wardrobe before consisted of a 8 onesies, 4 sets of baby mittens, 2 hats, and 3 pairs of socks. It's definitely doubled with the package: 2 $3 onesies with matching booties. The cutest little bathrobe with a duck on it. 2 layette gowns. A set of matching long sleeved sleeper, hat, booties, and bib. A set of 2 onesies and pair of pants which was perfect coming from a grandma. And a UofA onesie! GO CATS! There was also stuff from our registry: 2 boppy slip covers, a pack of blankets, a swaddler, and a tigger blanket (which apparently she got before she knew the nursery was going to be done in pooh). Our pile of baby stuff is growing!!!! Here's some pictures of the goodies:

Baby Movement

So up until the ultrasound on Tuesday I hadn't felt the baby move. I mean nothing that I could for sure say "oh that's baby". Last week while I was peeing (with a really really full bladder) I could have sworn it shifted from one side of the uterus to the other, but maybe it was just my bladder deflating? But ever since the ultrasound I can definitely feel it move. I think BG (this is it's new nickname which stemmed from Chris's referral to sex determination "boy or girl") was pissed about all the noise we subjected it to during the ultrasound b/c it was jumping and moving all over the place on Tuesday night. I even had trouble falling asleep b/c no position was comfortable with a jumping bean inside. Continued Wednesday morning with random twinges all over the place (high low, front, back... like it was swimming laps). Today it's much calmer, but still noticeable. Even though I've been getting ultrasounds at every appointment, the movement finally makes me feel that a little person is growing inside me not just random pains and pulls and a giant tummy.

Fetal assessment ultrasound

We had our big fetal assessment ultrasound this morning. They weren't kidding when they said it would be a long one. They measured everything! Head circumference, abdomen circumference, femur length, looked at the brain, spine, stomach, lungs, heart (yes all 4 chambers are there and looked normal--whew!), and umbilical cord. Won't get the results of everything probably until my next doctor appointment in 2 weeks, but the tech didn't seem worried about anything.

We got to see the baby get hiccups too, which was pretty cool. It sucked it's thumb a little and played with it's face. The ultrasound tech told us what she thought the baby's sex was, but couldn't say 100% b/c the baby kept it's legs crossed tightly at the ankles (you could see that too). There was no spread eagle shot, but what she did get was pretty clear. So we have a pretty good idea.

Here's some pictures from today.

Profile (you can even see the lips!):

This one is labeled "skelator with a smile" (Don't turn your head, it's the right way!)

There is a face in the center. You can see two eyes (or cavities), the nose, and an open smile. Even a prominent chin too. Or you can just use your imagination. I swear it's really there though!

That was the excitement for the day. Oh and we did buy our first gender specific baby paraphernalia today (a pack of onsies, baby mittens, socks, and a hat). Off to the baby name book.

Registry up and running

Baby registry is up and listed in the side column. We registered at Target and Babies R Us (BRU). It would have all been BRU, but there were a few items we liked the colors of better at Target. I made a "Master Registry" using findgift.com. On this list you can find almost everything we registered for (at Target and BRU), and also some items on this list are only available online (ie. stroller). The links to the master list, Target, and BRU are all listed.

Another week on call last week. Slept crappy all last week. I think Wednesday I finally got more than 1 hour at a time, which felt great. The rest of the time I got an hour at a time if even, and no it wasn't due to my pager, just my body. I never really felt like I'd fallen asleep. Friday night tried to sleep, and my body wasn't listening, I couldn't even fall asleep. Got paged at midnight for a liver transplant at 2am. My second call offered to do the liver, but I figured I'd stay since I couldn't sleep anyways. By around 7:30am I was finally exhausted. Went home to get some sleep in case anything else came up. Fell asleep around 9am, and slept til 1pm! WOO 4 hours! Got up to eat around 2 and fell back asleep for 2 more hours! And shockingly Saturday night I also slept too!! Amazing how exhausting yourself can cure insomnia. Now I'm on 2nd call, so it's a little less stressful.

The original dresser we liked wasn't long enough, so we finally found a new one we liked that came in the right color. We'll order that soon. Crib should be shipping in the next few weeks. We gotta get on the ball and clear out the office if we're getting even more furniture!

Tomorrow's the big ultrasound where we make sure everything is developing okay and potentially find out the sex. Chris has been counting down the days :)

Registry time...

Memorial day weekend was baby registry weekend. We went out looking at rocker/gliders. Found one we liked, now just shopping around for prices. We "officially" decided what stroller we liked after tons of painstaking hours at the computer doing research. We went to Target and Babies R Us and made our registries! So much progress! I'm compiling the registries into one that is comprehensive, and has links to both registries. The registry link will be provided in the right hand column when it is complete and pretty.

We ordered the crib and crib mattress this weekend. Our first official baby purchase!! Should be here in a few weeks. We figured it was about time to buy something.

Pregnancy update time: I think I may have overdone it being out and about so much this weekend. Either that or the little one is playing tug-o-war with my uterus. My lower abdomen has been killing me, starting around 3 or 4pm if I've been standing/walking for any length of time. Did it the past two days and is doing it again today. And towards 8pm I start to get these cramps (I don't want to call it cramps b/c it's not what I think of when I think cramps). It starts as a tightening toward the base of my uterus and it becomes hard as a rock, then occasionally it gets higher up, especially if I just lay down. Stays tight for a minute or two, and then just goes away. Not really painful, just a tad uncomfortable that makes me take a deeper breath. I have more energy... well sometimes. My battery lasts longer, but runs out real fast though once I reach my tired point. I think my tummy is getting ready for a growth spurt again. There's stretching and pulling, and itchiness. New belly pics from this weekend are up in the photo album.

I get my fetal assessment scan Tuesday. I'm praying for 4 heart chambers all well developed, pulmonary arteries connecting where they're supposed to and no unnecessary holes, well developed brain and spine, intestines in the proper spot, proper amount of lung tissue, correct number of kidneys, etc. Chris is praying for a boy. So we'll see who's prayers are answered lol. Although we did get a free Playtex nurser system that came in dark boy blue, so maybe that's a sign? or maybe it just jinxed it and it'll be a girl lol. Chris was really careful not to scan anything gender specific for the registry just in case; he didn't want to jinx anything :)

Went to the doctor today. After waiting freaking forever! My appointment was at 2:50 and I got called in around 4, and seen after that. I love the midwife. She's so sweet and takes a personal approach to pregnancy, but she's always running late. Love to have her at my delivery, but for routine appointments, i think I'm going back to the doctor. He might be straight to the point, but at least you don't wait forever.

So we got an ultrasound. Got to see the baby suck it's thumb. Did a little dance up my uterus. Then rolled over away from us. Very very quiet lil kiddo. Couldn't even tell anything close to gender. Then again we're convinced she didn't try. We think if she'd moved the wand more to the side, she could have got it, cause it was right up against the edge of the uterus knees on it's chest. Oh well. We have the detailed scan of the organs (I guess what everyone calls the "anatomy scan") on June 3. Then Chris can wear his baby blue shirt and hope it brings a boy again lol. I also did the AFP test for fetal abnormalities. It's a blood test, so I should get the results at or before my next appointment (June 17).

I don't know if I'll have time to transfer the photo to the computer before we leave tomorrow. Check the photos cause I'll upload it there if I do.

New pictures

There's new belly pictures up from weeks 12 til now (week 15).
Baby Pruett

We go to the doctor on Tuesday for our next neonatal appointment, so hopefully we'll have more pictures Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. Chris is even hoping that we find out the sex this week. I'm not going to get my hopes up because this appointment is with the nurse midwife and her ultrasound machine isn't as clear as the doctor's. We'll see though...
